We've set up a new page http://inblighty.com/dashboard/travel-tools.php which hopefully provides a lot of useful tools for independent travelers and those on gap year or backpacking trips.
It uses a mix of our own, and 3rd part apps and widgets, some of which may sometimes be slow to load - not sure how much I can do about this, but I'm particularly interested in whether your page load time would put you off using the page. Any other comments, suggested additions , general thoughts also appreciated.
