My wife joined fitness first in October 2010. She was told by the membership advisor they have a
4 month contract @ £39 and she will get 2 month free membership thereafter. She was given free passes for February 2011 and March 2011 on the date she joined and signed her contract. After January payment she cancelled her Direct Debit as she thought her contract was just for 4 months. She got a letter regarding payment for month of February 2011 twice. On calling the headoffice the person over the phone was very rude and said its a 4 month minimum term and they need 1 month notice before cancelling the contract. All this was not told and explained while joining the club. They are not accepting their mistake that the membership advisor said it was just 4 month contract,didnt tell her about 1 month notice and also gave her free passes for February and March on joining. Now we are getting letters from Debt Colloectors mentioning about possible Court Summons. Fitness First now want payment of £39 for February and also £25 for Debt Collectors.
Please suggest if we should ignore them,will this affect her Credit Rating,Shd we contact Trading Standards? Kindly suggest best course of action.
