fix parking brake on chevy S-10?

the brake works but when i push down on it with my foot it don't latch just comes back up this truck is a 2001 chevy S-10

There has to be a parking brake release lever that you pull. Make sure that that is not stuck out. Then go under the dash and see if the rod for the release is connected to the piece that has the gear teeth that hold the brake down. If not repair
