planning on using a shotgun for coyote defense(they're getting aggressive in my area and I'm allowed to carry a shotgun with shot no larger then #4 buckshot year round, but #4 buckshot is hard to find), any suggestions on what type and what size shot I should use?
I've seen how effective a shotgun can be in videos where they use a shotgun for close range shooting of coyotes, but I never heard what size they use, what's you opinion.
we're only allowed to carry a .22 or smaller rimfire or a shotgun loaded with shot no larger then #4 buckshot year round, so I'm not going to carry a .22 rifle when I can carry a shotgun.

I would go the largest you can, so #4 buck is my advice. If you are actually HUNTING them, its a different story, i would go with a rifle for certain, and not a .22LR. .223 is very effective.

Federal and Estate both make #4buck. If you cant find it at all, BB or BBB would be my next bet, and since its a common turkey load, should be easier to find.

I don't use a shotgun. I would use my .223 to hunt them. And my .357 against them. But they normally run away at the sight of me.

most of them are using oo buck or ooo buck shot but size #4 to bb's will work with a full or extra full choke or a good turkey load will work too
