I just bought a new used car A ford Taurus. I mentioned to a friend I was buying a Ford Taurus, and the first thing out of his mouth was you are going to need Shocks. The Ford Taurus has really bad shocks. When I went to the Auto Parts store to buy Anti freeze, and radiator flush, the parts person said in a joking way have you replaced the shocks yet. When I got an oil change a few months after I bought the car the Mechanic said I needed new shocks. As I said I heard from at least a Dozen people, say the Ford Taurus shocks are terrible. They always give out. So since it has a reputation of being really bad, can I buy shocks from another car Manufacturer, that are better, and would fit my car?

When they say that Ford Taurus shocks are poor quality, they do not mean that all shocks for the Taurus are equally poor. They just mean that the Original Equipment Manufactured (OEM) shocks that Ford installs at the Factory in new Tauruses are poor quality.

All you need to do is to get a third party manufacturer's brand of Shocks. Monroe for example.

I had the same problem with my Chevy Caviler only it was the Rack and Pinion. GM front-wheel drive cars made in the late 80's have a problem with the Rack and Pinion. If you get the OM part, you'll develop the same problem in 40,000 miles. So instead of OEM parts, it was recommended to me that I buy a third party part which was compatible, yet was designed to solve the problem.

Just get some quality brand shocks (Monroe is good parts for the money if not the best on the market) and they'll serve you better than OEM parts.

Not another car manufacturer... probably should go with an aftermarket high performance brand like MOOG or something.
