getting fined for limewire?

im getting a new itouch for my birthday because my ipod nano sucks.On my old ipod i would use limewire to get all my songs because i didnt know where else to get free songs from. but since limewire is illegal, i want to protect myself from getting in trouble. i heard if you dont register your ipod you dont have to worry about getting fined is that true?

also are there other safe ways and websites to get free music for an itouch without worrying about getting fined?
 
Just one note: LimeWire is not illegal to use. Downloading copyrighted materials is illegal. So if the music you are going to download is not copyrighted then there's no criminal offense committed.
 
registering your Ipod will make no difference, Your internet provider are the people that may pass your download activities on to someone that possibly would fine you. In most case's these are extreme downloaders who get caught and not small file sharing, its the Big Fish they are after in most case's.
But Oviously we all know its illegal ;).
