I'm a regular guy from Minnesota (pretty harsh winter here now) who is 36 years old, and my girlfriend and I recently made plans to fly to Orlando over the January 27-31 weekend and take a cruise ship to the Bahamas for a few days. I just graduated law school a few days ago, and my girlfriend just finished her grad school program as well -- so we thought we'd skip town for a few days to get to some warm weather and celebrate. Problem is, she just dumped me the other day, so now I guess I'm flying solo. I might be able to refund the cruise fare I spent (vacation insurance), not sure on that yet. But I can't refund the airfare, so I'm headed to Orlando for a few days, arriving Thursday night and leaving Monday night. I've never been on an overnight cruise before, but it sounded like fun to do (as a couple). But cruising solo, I'm not sure about that? Any thoughts or ideas of fun stuff to do in Florida for an extended weekend? I figure that I'll rent a car in Orlando and see where it takes me. I'm usually up for decent live music, good beer and stuff like that, but for this vacation I was actually just looking forward to relaxing on the beach with some drinks, etc. Should I go on the cruise solo? Or should I stay on land and find a good beach spot somewhere? What is better for warm weather and good beaches this time of year -- the Gulf Coast or the Atlantic Coast? Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!
