has anyone traveled to australia with medication without a note from your doctor?

i have allergy meds and birth control that im taking with me on a trip(from canada) and am wondering if it is completely necessary for me to bring notes from my doctors.or is the bottle okay enough (it has my name on it) without any note

also should i put it on my carry on or checked luggage?
