Have you lost respect for any celebrities who have spoken out about politics?

I keep wondering what gives actors and musicians the idea that they know more than the rest of us. It bothers me when they speak out when they go on TV or say things at their public shows and appearances. People are so impressionable and they have huge fan bases.
Do you take their opinions with a grain of salt or do they influence you?
The Hollywood lifestyle is certainly not something I admire with the drugs, drinking, divorces and infidelity. These people do have free speech, but is what they are doing right?
 
YES - ABSOLUTELY

We pay them to entertain us**. Not tell us who to vote for. Most of them are High School dropouts who have no grasp of politics but just like to shoot off their mouths for even more attention.

We don't go to ANY movies with Susan Sarandon and Sean Penn in them. We don't listen to the Dixie Chicks and anyone who bashed President Bush. More people should do that and put those idiots in their places.
 
i haven't lost respect for those celebrities...they have as much right to their opinions as you and i do. i HAVE lost respect for all the lemmings who blindly follow celebrities regardless of what they say. these followers are the true problem, not the celebrities themselves. impressionable or not, people need to develop their own sense of conviction and stand by it, not look to the most popular celeb and adopt the same stance.
 
They don't influence me, but they have the right to speak out if they want.
No one complained when Heston lifted his rifle and declaimed "From my cold dead hands".
In fact I though the right had orgasm-ed.
 
most of them i didn't respect in the first place, i wasn't raised to respect celebrities. as to their opinions i don't pay a lot of attention to them and certainly don't allow their opinion to influence my vote. funny to me how the dixie chicks saw nothing wrong with expressing their 1st amendment rights but weren't real happy when their fans expressed theirs and sent their careers right down the tubes.
 
They are people too, ya know?

Like you said they have free speech. They can support whom ever they want to support
 
Most of them are Liberals so I lost respect for most of them long ago.

They are actors getting multimillion dollar deals to play in a movie that has a Liberal Agenda tied to it. Happy Feet, War of the Worlds, almost all of them have an agenda.
 
Lost respect for them years ago. They are surrounded by yes-men who are afraid to tell the celebrity no.
