...religious homes where the parents shoved...? their religion down their childrens throats. I'm talking the parents that their kids were like..."Mom, I don't think I believe in God anymore..." and then she made him go upstairs and pray....like for real? Everyone I know that came from a strict closed-minded "Christian" home either ended up Atheist or Some other religion, like Paganism. Has anyone else noticed this?
Pretty...I said A LOT of former Christians, not ALL, so I can't be wrong...
 
You are wrong.

My family isn't christian. I was the only christian yet I left the religion.
 
People from strict homes, ironically, are more likely to reflect more on what they are asked to believe. Nothing could be more likely to produce an atheist than deep consideration of religion.
 
Yep, I'm living proof. I was sheltered and raised a conservative Christian in the bible belt of America. I went to school in a church all the way up to 6th grade. Haha I'm now pagan...
 
Like me! Well my mum's a strict Christian, my dad an atheist but I lived with my mum. We had to fill in the census and I noticed she'd put me as a Christian and told her I was atheist. She didn't say anything but when I came out of my room later that day she'd put a crucifix over the door and was knelt praying outside... Mental.
 
That's usually the case. I am a product of extreme religious upbringing, I suppose. I think my case is a little different though, because I was not allowed to go to school or even listen to certain music, yet my parents both abused drugs. It was complete and utter bullshit and I got tired of it. I got tired of my questions about religion and life being answered with "pray about it". I was never into the whole religious thing though, even at a small age I was really apathetic towards it and refused to sing in church.

Sometimes I still can't help but wonder if there really is a "God like" being out there, though.
 
yeah. it's called bitterness...not the best reason to turn one's back on God...
 
Yep. I was raised Catholic, forced Confirmation and everything. When I was about 16 I realized how much of a load I thought that all was and I was like, Screw this I'm an atheist! Then I discovered quantum mechanics and the Tao, which fit together in a really profound way, so I guess we'll see where my beliefs head after further study.
