Hd Vizio tv, Hd Dish Network receiver, Magnovox dvr but no signal can't record?

I have a new Vizio hdtv and a hd dish network receiver and a Magnovox hdd/dvd recorder but I cannot get the signal to come though so I can record any programs. I can watch dvds but tv signal will not come through. It was hooked up in another room and worked fine with a different tv. What am I doing wrong?

You need to connect a cable from the audio output of the tv to the audio input of the dvd recorder. It will probably be an a/v cable. Red, white and yellow connections.
Open up both the tv and dish manuals for hookup suggestions, they might show you another way and you dvd recorder manual will come in handy also
