help! i have blocked my nokia 2300?

hi my partner has entered a pin code wrongly 3 times in his nokia 2300 and now it is saying pin blocked enter puk code we have entered the puk code now it is requesting to set new pin code which we have and it keeps on saying pin error, does anyone know why this is and what is the new pin code for a nokia 2300
p.s. it i a contract phone
