Help. I need an idea for a sci/fi book?

Everyone has to write a short story and I have to write a science fiction. I usually don't read a lot of sci/fi books so I'm stuck. I don't want you to write the book for me but just give me some ideas. Please help. Thanks in advance
 
try writing in the style of sesquipidalian bafflegab , that is , the interjection of polysyllabic verbiage into the syntax of your vernacular in an effort to obfuscate . ( use big words to BS ) i once knew a guy who was assigned a three page story on the inside of a ping pong ball . you could fill a hundred if you think like a story like 'men in black' , remember the ending , how our galaxy was like a marble ?
 
You have likely read more more sci-fi than you think since it is often designed as techno thrillers and other mainstream genre
maybe a story about someone with an artificial pancreas
or a story with space ships or time travel or genetic mutations

if you're not really into futuristic stuff, you could have the story be about time travelers who get stuck in a time period that you like - ancient rome, ancient egypt, medieval europe, the renaissance, the american revolution, french revolution, american civil war, etc., or it could even be time travelers from the future stuck in our present time.
