I'm getting a small kitten tomorrow from the SPCA and I'm really excited about this because I've wanted a kitten for a really long time.
But there is one issue; my mom's boyfriend's dog is living with us right now because he's always out at camp for his work.
This dog is big, probably 100-125lbs, 2-3 years old, we don't know exactly what he's mixed with but he definitely has some black lab and rottweiler.
He's easily excited, playful, but hates a lot of dogs. Not all, mostly small dogs, but still a lot. He loves baby puppies though, I don't know what it is, it's just something about it being a baby I guess - hence the reason we're getting a kitten not a cat - but like I said he hates small dogs but absolutely adores puppies.
But last Monday, he escaped the yard and we live near a provincial park with lots of deer around and he chased a baby fawn around and almost got himself shot. Thankfully the conservation officer was a kind man and not a complete douche canoe so he brought the dog back and explained what happened.
Basically, my dog attacked a baby fawn and chased it down the beach to my house and basically tortured it to near death and it was too injured to nurse back to health so the conservation office had to shoot it.
I realize it's a different situation because it's a kitten that I'm getting, not a deer or something that he has natural instincts to chase, but I'm still a little concerned.
I've had a dog and introduced a kitten to him before, but it was a kinder dog so I wasn't as worried.
Does anyone have any kind of advice to help me with the introductory of the two?
Thank you!
