On my 3 year olds laptop, the dvd drive is disapeared, and I mean completly. I don't see it in BIOS, not under device manager. No where. I reinstalled windows 7, dvd drive was fine, about 4 days later, it's gone.

Now like I said, its a 3 years olds computer, so anything could have happened really, but I don't really think so. He only plays disneyt games and PBS games, and watches DVD's. So I'm leaning towards it been a windows 7 problem or something else, and not the fact that its a child computer.

Ive tried going a few solutions posted online including disapbling signature enforcements, I dont have any upper filters or lower filters to erase. Ive used microsoft repair software. It says no optyical drive is detected, so problem was not fixed.

Yet when I press the eject button, it ejects normally. But no CD/ dvd can be read, and when I click on my computer, it is not there, nor under devices in management.

Can anyone help me? Suggestions are all welcome. if you have instructions, please talk clear laman terms, as Im not the most computer savy person around.

The laptop is an Acer Aspire 5520-5865
AMD x2, 160gb hard drive, 1 gb ram...
windows 7 ultimate x32 bit

Either the DVD drive has died or there is a problem with the connection, as the other answer says.

The eject button just means there is power to the motor that does the eject. It doesn't mean it can talk to the computer.

i have the same problem what happens is with laptops the cd/dvd drive gets loose over time and doesn't always connect when the computer is booted up if it doesn't show up set the laptop on a level surface push gently on the cd/dvd drive as you boot the computer up if it doesn't show up don't panic just reset your computer till it shows up this may seem like a slow solution but its what works for me

I think u just reinstal your windows 7.
It may be corrupted by virus. That can be proved that your win7 cant recognize your Cd/dvd drive. It may help u.
