I've been thinking lately about investing in a new bike less than around $450. My previous bike had been a Huffy full suspension mountain bike that I use almost every week, mostly off-road and pavement.
I have been considering a Trek "hybrid" bike, which is basically a combination between a road bike and a mountain bike. The major con of this bike is that it has no suspension at all.

What is your take? What bikes would you suggest for off road and pavement?
Here is another bike that I consider buying. This is probably better than the FX 7.2 since this is a mountain hardtail, which has front-suspension.
