Help please! I'm having trouble inventing a weapon for my sci-fi story!?

My story is a fantasy/sci-fi and i need a weapon. Gosh i wish it before lucas and his amazing light sabers because now everything i come up with seems crap compared to them. I do want to base mine off a sword because in a story its way better to have confrontations that just a gun. Though i don't mind the use of guns.

My question to you is can you aid me in such a task or are there any sights that could. I would ask my science teacher he's a real sci-fi nerd, but *sigh* its summer
 
How about a cross-bow that shoots stardust in a capsule?
 
Take a weapon that no one really knows about (like a tofa, tofas are cool, I think I spelt it wrong though) and change it into something more futuristic and out of this world!
 
I think the best sci-fi weapons of all time have come from the 'Gundam' anime series. Instead of light sabers, the suits had thermal energy weapons. Such as.... the scythe on the one suit, Deathscythe. The blade of the weapon was energy forced into the correct shape. The idea would be cool to use on other unusual weapons. I would suggest taking a look at aincient Chinese weapons, especially those created and used by the Shaolin Monks. Some of their stuff was wicked, including their bladed weapons, such as their twin hooks, and their other weapons, including the whip chain.
Scythes would be good. Glaives are beautiful and deadly.
 
lol "my teachers a sci-fi nerd". Maybe you could use a remote that makes people think they are being hurt. That sounds very technological...
