I am for abortion. Everyone says you're ending an innocent person's life. Yes, that's true. But in most religions, you believe in something positive to happen to it, right? Some people believe the aborted fetus will go to heaven. And others believe in reincarnation, so it would just have another life. There are a lot more beliefs than that, I just don't feel like giving more examples. If you have an abortion, the fetus is not the one who will be effected the most. It hasn't had a chance to see life, or meet people. So it isn't going to be leaving behind much. That's probably something that would make most people against abortion. If abortion were to become illegal, it would have a terrible outcome. Some women, who are too lazy to use birth control or any type of protection will get many abortions while it is legal. But there are others who get abortions because they were raped, their birth control failed, or they don't want the baby but also don't want it to have to be an adopted kid. Some women find out that their child will have a disease that causes them to suffer their entire life and die at a young age. Sometimes the baby will have severe problems. It may be paralyzed and unable to communicate it's entire life, and then the only reason to keep it alive is for selfishness. There's already neglected and abused children in the world, I think there will be a lot more if abortion becomes illegal.

What are your thoughts on this topic?
I'm sorry if I posted this in the wrong category, I put it in the first one yahoo answers suggested. If this is the wrong category, please tell me what it should be under and I will move the question. =] Thank you in advance.
In some ways, abortion is completely selfish. But in other ways, it is for the baby's own good. If the baby would be paralyzed and unable to communicate for life, it's just selfish to keep it alive. But if you just didn't use protection of any type, and don't want to have to take on the consequenses, it's selfish to abort it. You make good points though, Lindsey. =] The baby that's getting aborted could cure cancer, or lead the world to peace, or anything amazing like that. Or it could be the next Hitler, and end up ruling the world and bringing horror to everyone. Either is possible. But most likely, it would do neither.

I also am for abortion. BUT I do not think you should be able to get one just because you're an idiot and didnt use birth control. Maybe we should have some law where if thats the reason you want one you should be forced to give it up for adoption then you get your tubes tied. Maybe there wouldnt be so many abortions. Remember people abortions arent meant to be used as birth control!

I rarely get involved in conversations or debates like this, but after reading most of these answers, I feel compelled to thrown in my two cents.

1. People say that rape victims should be allowed to have an abortion, but other women can't.
Here's my problem with that logic. If you believe abortion is a sin, it should be because the "life of the fetus" is human life and sacred. The sanctity of that life should not be dependent on how said life was concieved.
By using this as an argument and saying that it's okay in this case, you're basically saying that a woman that gets pregnant by having consenual sex should be forced to carry to term and birth a baby as a punishment. In that case, it's not an issue of human life, it's a lesson that you think she should learn.

2. People say that the aborted fetus could have grown up to cure cancer, be the president, cure something else. Really? Chances are it would grow up to be just another person. Maybe a good person, maybe a not so good person. There's also the possibility that it could have been the next Charles Manson, Bin Laden, a rapist, a theif. So many possibilities...

Perhaps people should stay out of other peoples bedrooms and doctors offices. The choice to have an abortion is one that isn't easy for any woman. Some regret it for the rest of their life, so never look back. If you didn't concieve it, you need to mind your own business.

The abortion issue is about states rights vs federal government, not about making abortion illegal. It's not constitutional for the federal government to make it legal or illegal, unfortunately the constitution was usurped when the Supreme Court ruled it a federal law.
