I recently decided to take steps to become a healthier person again and went in for a physical. My Alt (SGPT) came in at 134. I'm just curious how easy that number goes up upon a week of heavy consumption prior to blood work. What brought the physical on was wanting to go to the gym - feeling out of shape - and deciding I had been drinking too much. I'm a 31yr old male that has been drinking consistently since the age of 17 (at least a few times a week - sometimes a beer or two - sometimes a good amount of hard alcohol). I had been in a period for over a year that was basically where I drank 2-3 times a week. Then recently I took up a old bad habit of DJing at clubs downtown - which increased the volume of alcohol to large amounts. The last month before the physical - the drinking went up. I"m going to go in for a second test after drinking absolutely no alcohol for the next month. What I'm wondering is if a month of heavier drinking will elevate this test significantly. I have no interest in continuing the pace of drinking I have in the past - but it would be nice to go out a couple of times a month in the future. I'll obviously follow the doctor's orders when I get my next tests back - whether that means no booze or not. I'm just curious if anyone knows more about this test. To my understanding it can be any number of things.
