Cybercriminals know how to work current events to trick people into falling for their scams. News about the economy isn't immune. Look around online or in your e-mail inbox, and you?ll find phony come-ons for get-rich-quick, work-at-home jobs, as well as schemes for squeezing a few bucks from the government?s stimulus package.
For our annual cybersecurity report, we?re looking for someone who was taken in by an economy-related cyberscam that resulted in a financial loss. We?re also looking for someone who fell victim to identity theft as a result of an Internet transaction and lost money.
If either of those experiences applies to you, and you?re willing to discuss it with me for inclusion in a Consumer Reports article, e-mail me privately at 'security at cro.consumer.org.' You can also submit a comment to this post. Don't forget to briefly describe your situation and?most importantly?how I can contact you.
All responses will be read by me personally. And don't worry. Your personal information is safe with us. Nothing will be posted publicly on this blog. (See ConsumerReports.org's online User Agreement and online Privacy Policy for more details about how we handle your personal information.)
And, to stay safe in the future, check out our free online security guide, as well as results of our latest national security survey and what they mean to you.
