Dear Mates,
We are going to Install a Home Theater System in our house. For that, we are constructing a hall which is (32ft*18ft) i.e (32ft Length*18 ft Width). Already i have spent for Home Theater System and a Hall. Now it comes to my pocket for sound proofing my Hall which is strictly recommended by a sound engineer. Please describe me about creating a easiest and cheapest sound proofing in our hall. what are all the materials required and also explain in step by step procedure about making it sucessfuly.
Iam waiting to create my own.
-Thanks in Advance.

You should have thought about that when you were in the planning stage. There are specific construction materials such as "Quiet Rock" that need to be used and various construction techniques such as the walls within walls that John described. As he also says why would would want this if it is your house and you don't have neighbors sharing walls as you would in a condo? If it is to create the best environment for superior sound then that's a different matter. In that case you want to think about making the walls a rigid and stiff as possible. I had good results specifying that a contractor use two layers of 5/8" sheetrock. Ideally the hall should have been built from masonry with an asymmetric shape. Sound absorbing materials such as drapes to cut down on reflections is an important consideration. If you really want to do it right you will hire an acoustical consultant. It won't be cheap though. If nothing else you should look at how recording studios are constructed. It isn't that much different than an a home theater constructed for ideal acoustics. Here are some links:
