I'm looking to upgrade my home audio experience. Currently I just use my TV audio, which isn't bad. But I've got a nice 32" Vizio LCD HDTV, XBOX 360 (HDMI), PS3 (HDMI) and Verizon Fios HD STB (HDMI). Its got 2 HDMI inputs and I've got an HDMI switcher, so I can use all with no problems. But I'm looking at home theater systems and receivers and surround sound, so I'll need some help.
I'll start with the receiver:
The receivers I'm looking are the Sony STR-DG520, STR-DG720 and STR-DG820. They all have 2+ HDMI inputs and outputs up to 1080p, which is great. Only problem is that the 520 doesn't send audio over HDMI, so either optical or coax digital audio cables would be needed.
With the speakers, does it matter what kind? Say I bought a home theater system with no HDMI and wanted to use the speakers, but not the receiver/dvd player. Would that work? Could I mix and match speakers from different systems, some wired and some wireless as long as they're all connected to the same receiver? Just looking for some help so I don't have to pay $150 for installation.
