I recently purchased a HD TV, I have everything hooked up fine through my pvr to my tv, but my question, do I need all the red, white and yellow cables going from the dvd player if I have the red, green and blue cables hooked to my TV?
My PVR is hooked directly to my TV through HDMI cable...just trying to get rid of some cables, but before unplugging everything that took me forever to figure out, I want to ask these questions...

1. If dvd player is hooked up with rgb to tv, do I need the white yellow and red cables
2. and do I need them piggy backed through my pvr (I don't record to the vcr or dvd it is just to play on the tv)
3. Basically, is RGB to tv good enough to run dvd player? and is HDMI cable enough from cable box to tv, I want to get rid of all those red, yellow and whites?

thanks
I know this is confusing, but not so techie so trying to be as clear as possible

thanks in advance for your help
:)
hmmmmmmmmm
right now...I have the component cables hooked up...directly from dvd player to tv...but there are also red white and yellow hooked up from dvd to cable in out (on pvr) to tv
I am soo confused...and when I unplugged all the red yellow and white, nothing works for the dvd player
yikes...maybe just leave the mess?

1. You do not need the yellow cable. However, if you don't have a digital (coaxial or optical) sound output, you will need the red & white for sound.

2. DO NOT connect them to the PVR.

3. Component (what you called RGB) video cables are good for DVD, but depending upon whether you have any DVD upconverting going on, HDMI might be a slight improvement . HDMI from the cable box to your TV is as good as it can get. HDMI carries both picture & sound, get rid of the yellow white & red cables.

Good questions, well put.

Use an HDMI cable and only that hookup is necessary on the TV. Plug it in and go.
