how can i add more horse power to my 2004 2.3L ford ranger manuel transmission?

Ok I'm looking to add horse power to my ranger. I need some ideas an I'm also looking to add MPG. I tried a performance chip but I had to install it in the IAT sensor but I couldent find it. An I also thought about a K&N intake but no intake is made for my truck. Any ideas that can help me out would be great an prices also.
