How can I bite this whining in the butt before it gets really bad?

My son will be 1 in two weeks. Just the past week or so he has started to whine constantly, half of the time he just does it, I don't think he knows why. The thing is, he doesn't whine when he's alone with my husband so clearly it's a mommy thing. I can't stand it, he doesn't "talk" anymore, right now, cause he's habitually whining instead at me.......
How can I stop this before it drives me nuts, before it gets bad and before it permanately affects my sons personality??

Seems he's already learnt that whining is something that you respond to because he does it only with you. Pay him no attention when he's whining - he's doing it because it gets your attention. You need to completely (and I mean absolutely completely) ignore the behavior - he'll quickly learn that if he wants your attention he'll have to do something other than whine.

whine back at him, talk to him in a very whiney voice and say something along the lines of "oh this is how a whiney baby sounds mommy doesnt like it when you whine" then in a regular voice say, "this is how a big boy talks, when your ready to talk to mommy use your big boy voice, are you ready to use your big boy voice?" it works for my 2 year old. :)
