How can I burn a CD to be played on a CD Player/Stereo with 30+ tracks on it?

Is there free compression software on the internet? Do they need to be MP3 or WAV?
If MP3 tracks are around 4MB and my disc can hold 700MB, why can't I put 175 tracks on it!? I know I would if it was a data disc...But I need it to be able to play on a normal CD Player.
