How can i get divx files to play on my sony walkman?

If i try and tranfer it comes up sayingt that the file is not supported

You need to convert the movie file to a MP4 format. This is the only videos most MP3 players will play. I use Icepine Video Converter Pro, but there are LOTS of MP4 converters out there. Hope this helps.
