How can I get DivX Plus Player to stop making itself the default video player?

Every time a new version install after it automatically downloads, I have to re-set several video file types to play with WMP. I like DivX for it's codecs but hate it as a video player. It's even worse that it makes itself the default player, & even changes the file types' icons.
 
Instead of installing Divx Player just for it's codecs you could just install ffdshow (this the core of most codec packs)

this will allow media player to play most anything

for mkv you'd need the Matroska splitter and for flv you need the FLVsplitter

Also you could just do this, when you install the Divx Player, only install the codec pack, uncheck the player and everything else.
