How can I learn about Judaism?

I recently found out I'm a Jew. My mother found out more of her background on the internet. Now, I am interested in learning about Judaism and what it has to teach. I guess you can say I'm an Atheist but it wouldn't hurt understanding what Judaism teaches.
My mother was adopted as a newborn baby. This is why she didn't know about her family background.
