How Can I Raise Money for People Who Have Lost Their Homes In The Bushfire?

My best friend just lost her house in Marysville, Victoria she has five kids and has lost everything. What are some ways I can raise money to help her and other people that have lost their homes. Like should I set up a fundraiser, see if local businesses would help?? I really don't know what to do. I really want to help I just don't know how. I have heard that $1000 will be given to people who have lost their homes but what is $1000 going to do!
 
Start a nonprofit organzation, start a website (with pictures, ability to accept CC donations, paypal donations, etc) and ask for donations from businesses, friends, families. Get newspapers involved. Get others involved to help you with various parts of the project and in helping solicit donations from businesses. I am sure businesses will appreciate postive PR. the more aggressive you are, the more you can raise. Use social media, the internet, news media, etc. etc.
