I need some extra money for the holidays and was told that you can rent your car out for film or tv shows if its unique. I have a crown vic 2000 . I was wondering if i can dress it up as a prop police car and rent it out.
please answer the following questions....
How much should i charge a day?
And do i need special insurance? ( i wont be using it for stunts, just normal driving and stand still)
And are their any special legal permits i need to have this police car?

thanks

I can't see that being unique enough to be worth your time and effort. I'm sure there is no shortage of Crown Vics that can be driven and even trashed cheaper then they could rent yours for.

If you need money for the holidays there is no way you can afford the cost to mock up your plain 2000 Crown Vic as a police vehicle. You would not know how to dress it anyway. The only thing you would need from the outside is the right paint job and decals which could run you a couple of K as well as an appropriate light bar which is not cheap. If you can afford to kit out the car then you can afford christmas. Don't waste your time.

Most movie companies have a lot full of cars to use in films ... they do not need to rent usually. If the movie is a "period" film (set in a bygone era ... like the 50's or 60's) ... then maybe the film company needs extra cars from that period. You can't have a film set in the 50's and have a car that was built in 2000 on the set, it just would not look right (unless the movie involves time travel!)

If you had a period car in fair shape (mint condition would be best) and a film company was making a movie from that era ... maybe they would rent your car. A 2000 Crown Vic? They probably have access to 50 of them, some already set up as convincing police cars!

Sorry, but it would not be worth the time to make your Crown Vic look like a police car ... you probably would not find a renter for it! They could just as easily go to a used car dealer and make a deal ... the movie company gets cars, the dealer gets mentioned in the credits.

Full screen "Cars provided by Jim Bob's Ford in Walls Corners, NY" or something similar. Get cars for nearly nothing!
