How can I restore my Vista system to an earlier, known working config, when

Vista won't boot? I ran a registry optimizer (glary utilities), and now Vista will no longer boot (I just get the Gateway spash screen, then just a flashing cursor on a black screen.

I'm sure the system will work if I can restore the registry to its prior state, but I can't get to System Restore to do this.

I downloaded "Vista_Recovery_Disc.iso" which is supposed to allow you to create a bootable CD that has a scaled down version of Vista so you can use system restore. But it is an ICO file, and I don't know how to create a bootable CD from that.

Do you think that would help, if I can create this bootable CD? Do you have other ideas about how to restore an earlier version of my registry? Or any other ideas?

Thanks!

(Gateway in their great wisdom provides Recovery software On The Hard Drive - which you can't access when you need to recover your system!)
