How come certain christians quote the bible when answering questions?

Like, when I ask questions based on my agnostic/atheist beliefs, they answer quoting the bible. Dude, I've never even read the bible, nor do I understand how those metaphors relate to my problem. Why can't these people just answer the question without quoting the bible, or at least explain how it is supposed to help me?
