How could i safely arrange a meeting with someone i met online?

I met someone on Y!A and we seem to share a lot of interests, we're the same age and we only live a few hours apart...i think it would be really cool if we could meet but i dont know how to ask her without making her think im a creeper

meet in a public place , let one of your close friends know what you are doing and give them that persons contact info , and as a safty have that person call you say a half hour to an hour after you meet this person , and if things are not going well and you need an easy out to end the date tell them family emerengcy or something came up and you have to go .
