How did all the most famous superheroes get their powers?

I'm trying to create my own superhero, and possibly a comic series, but I don't want to copy any other masterpieces or their plot devices. So I'd like to know about some famous superheroes and how they got their powers.

I want to make a sort of dark hero/antihero character, but I'm having trouble thinking of really creative ways for how he gets his powers. At first I was thinking that he should sell his soul to the devil for the power to save the girl he loves, but selling ones soul has already been used in Spawn and Ghost Rider. I'm not asking for ideas, but I need to know what's already out there so I don't commit plagiarism.
 
god plz don't do that, it's so lame!!! just think of something else.....maybe he's a product of some genetic engineering project.
 
There are five accepted means of gaining superpowers.

1: Exposure to atomic radiation. (The Hulk, The Fantastic Four, Spider-Man)

2: Being born with it (X-Men Mutants, Superman)

3: Being fantastically wealthy and/or intelligent (iron man/ Batman)

4: Supernatural or extraterrestrial intervention (Spawn, Green Lantern)

5: Excessive masturbation (Green Arrow, Justice Girl, Extremely awkward Man)
 
There are the standard ways and some examples:
- Lab accident: Hulk, Flash, Radioactive Man ( ;-) ), Spider-Man
- Alien: Superman, Thor
- Powers by Tools and Technology: Batman, Iron Man, Green Lantern (The ring is a technology)
- Mutation: X-Men

Most Supers got their powers like that.
