How did my xbox 360 scratch my disk?

My xbox scratched my disk. My sister accidentally disconnected my xbox 360 while a game was inside. When we connected it and turned on the system, the system made a really loud noise, the disk was out of place and really scratched. Anything I can do to prevent this from happening in the future. Anything i can do so I can fix the disk before I take it to the store and try to get it fixed?
 
best thing you can do is make sure there is no disk when moving the xbox 360 at anytime. the best thing to get rid of teh scratches (depends on how and they are) is to take them to a game store and have them remove them for a few dollars (usually about 3-4 per disk) if the scratches are really light, you can use pledge furniture polish to remove some, i use it personally and it works great for quick easy scratches
