how do I connect two wired desktops to the internet?

I have two wired desktops; one upstairs connected to my modem and the other in the basement. My problem is i don't have a phone line in the basement and so I can't connect my desktop to the internet. I have a wireless modem with a 4 point switch. I also bought a router for the downstairs desktop, but it tells me it needs to be connected to a modem. How do i fix this problem?

-Two wired desktops
-One wireless modem (2wire) connected upstairs to a desktop
-One wireless router (linksys) downstairs.
-I also have wifi laptops but those work fine with 2Wire

I had the same problem so i got a belkin usb wifi adapter and now i dont have to deal with all the cords. Just connect the the regular modem to one comptuter and use the wifi for the other desktop.
