I work in a records dept.

When I phone someone up I say "Hello it's David from records" and they often respond with: "Hello, David FromRecords, how are you?", (implying my surname is FromRecords.

I don't want to say my surname because I just don't like saying it and they still may not know I'm from Records.

And even if they did they may just sarcastically say my full name, "Hello David ____, how are you"

I can't just say "Hello it's David because they probably won't know who I am".

Sometimes the same person will make the same bad joke over and over again and it is really tiresome and annoying.

Do other people have this same problem?

How do they deal with it?

How should I deal with it?

Part of the problem may be that I am not very confident and come across a bit stilted.

I am 43 years old and live in Melbourne Australia (if that makes any difference)
