How do I get my old NEC VCR to record?

I have a very old NEC VCR, which still works quite well. I've playing with it a lot lately trying to figure out how to get it to record television programming. Unfortunately, the unit is so old that the instruction manual is long gone. I was wondering if anyone knows how to record using my old vcr, or if anyone by chance has an old NEC vcr also, and happens to have the instruction manual lying around. Thanks!
