How do I get subtitles to work on my DivX Player?

Okay, I'm using DivX Player 7.2.0, and I've finally figured out how to get my sound working but now, but when ever I change my subtitles so I can actually know what I'm saying (because I watch most of my stuff on there in Japanese) the subtitles don't appear. I'm afraid to meddle around with it because I have a history of messing things up when I do that. So, how do I get my subtitles working on the DivX Player?
