...operating a VIP 722K Dish DVR? I am able to hook up the BT235 sourround sound with the DVD player but I would like for my TV to have the surround sound too. I tried to put the Red and White audio cords from the back of the TV into the DVD player and there was not change. Any ideas? Do I need a receiver? Do I need an Optical Digital Audio cable?
 
Depends on your source. Do you have a cable box? If so, is it hooked up with HDMI?

If that is the case you should use the optical out of the TV to get surround sound.

If you have cable direct connect to the TV then you still should use the optical cable.

Some TVs have to have the speakers turned off in the menu.

Some TVs only do optical out on HD channels.
