How do I listen to my Tv through my home theatre system?

Hello I recently hooked up a new Onyko Reciever to my in ceiling speakers, Everything works great so far (Radio, ipod) But now I want to watch tv and hear the sound through the TV and thru my speakers from the reciever. I have a HDMI cable & ports on the reciever. Now my Tv is a SHARP 32" with two hdmi ports for dvd/etc. So i plugged the HDMI into the first HDMI port on TV and the other end into the OUTPUT HDMI on the Reciever. Now i dont know how to watch tv since I would have to change my tv to (video source HDMI) and thats not just a blue screen since the hdmi is plugged in. How can i fix this? Is my TV compatible to do this or should I just use composite cables??

No cable box or satellite dish receiver? What is your TV signal source? It sounds like you're asking your TV to be an output as well as an input.
