I have a linksys router, and when i use my laptop, i can always get wireless internet from it. but i want to disable it so nothing but my pc can use the internet. how do i do that?

from what i'm understanding it seems like you want to make it so that only the desktop pc that the router is hooked up too has internet or you want it so that you have to type a password to use the internet.

if you just wanna have the internet to the desktop pc then you should just not use the router. run the ethernet cord straight to the back of the computer from the modem.

if you want to put a password on it, just put the install(or setup) disk in for the router and it should give you an option to create a new network and then choose WAP (i think thats what it says but it will be similar if its not correct.) in the dropdown menu from under where it says something about using a KEY. what ever key you give it is what the password will be.

If you are using a modem, since you will not be able to use your router without the modem. I suggest you call your ISP, in order for your wireless setting to be configured and updated.

Just use the security option on your wireless access point (WAP)

You should configure the security:
1. MAC access list. Some WAPs can restrict wireless access to specific MAC addresses. Only devices whose MAC addresses are identified will be allowed to access the WAP.
2. Disable SSID broadcast. By disabling the SSID broadcast, wireless devices must be statically configured with the SSID before they can connect because they will be unable to dynamically detect the SSID.
3. Enable WEP. Configure keys manually or use a passphrase to generate the keys (the passphrase is case-sensitive).
4. Enable WPA. Configure the passphrase (the passphrase is case sensitive).
