I'm new to this. I've just decided to put all my old VHS video tapes onto DVD (Not ones I can buy on DVD, like films from Amazon etc, but ones that are not available, like stuff recorded from the TV etc)

It seems that all DVD+Rs are 120 minutes. I have a 3-hour tape which I want to put onto DVD and I have a tape of 5 x 30-minute programs, which I want to put onto one DVD too.

How can I do it, when all DVD+Rs are only 120 minutes?

from vhs to dvd, you wont be able to compress the data. so your only option is to buy longer running dvd's. you can buy them up to 300 mins.

If your DVD recorder has alternative recording mode settings ('speed', in easily understood terms), you could switch from SP to LP, or Long Play before you start copying.
This effectively doubles the recording time to the disc to four hours. The down side may be slightly inferior picture quality.
