How do I stop Android market from updating to Google Play?

I have a myTouch 4g that can't download apps with Google Play Store.However it can download apps using 2.2 Android Market.I've unistalled the updates for Google Play but it keeps automatically downloading and this cancels all of my current downloads.I have to re uninstall the updates but this keeps reuccuring.I always get a message like Error: No connection when I try to download apps regardless of whether or not I have connection.I've tried clearing the caches and factory resetting but it still won't work.Is there a way to stop Android Market from updating to Google Play?
 
If you open the Play Store app, hit menu, then settings, click Auto-update apps. If you check that, "do not auto-update app".
