How do I tell future employers why I am not working now if I was fired?

I was fired over something very minor due to a boss that seemed to feel threatened by my over-achieving actions and praise by others. I can't think of anything I did wrong to warant being fired. How cn I explain this in an interview without talking negatively about a previous employer? Thanks
 
Layoffs and downsizing are very common in this economy. Tell them that and no one will bat an eye.
