how do they know people that smoke will have cancer?

so they say everyone that smokes will have cancer so then i will right cause i smoke once in a great moon how can they proof that people that smoke will die from cancer i just don't understand it runs in my family so i will have it either way in life right?
 
Just keep smoking and don't worry about it. I'm happy to subsidize your treatment with my tax dollars.
 
"They" are wrong.

Smoking increases the risk of developing certain types of cancer and a whole range of other diseases.

For example, here in Australia only about 20% of people smoke yet 99% of people with small cell lung cancer are smokers.
 
Who are “they”? I don’t know anyone who says that.
Also cancer rarely runs in anyone’s family.
