How do you burn an AVI file to a DVD with Nero 9?

I've been trying to burn an AVI file to a DVD-R disk using Nero 9. I can remember doing this by adding the file to the DVD and then letting Nero convert the AVI format to DVD format (Into VIDEO_TS folders etc). I've now the need to make a DVD using an AVI file but I cannot remember how I did it. I've tried the SV-CD method but I need a larger CD-R and I know for definite that I have burnt an AVI onto a DVD-R before through the file being converted to DVD format.
