how do you convert vhs to dvd?

I was told it is possible to convert a vhs tape to a dvd! Where do you take a vhs to get this conversion done? And how is it done?
Generally how costly is it?

A device is sold on an internet website to enable copying VHS to DVD.
I cannot vouch for the quality of the finished product or the ease of use. I have not bought one.

I have done it myself using my Sony DVD/VCR combo which has dubbing
ability. It will generally copy a vhs to a dvd but not the other way around.
If you don't have access to one then I really think you would be best off
to simply buy the DVD if it is available. I think it would cost you more
to have somebody dub it for you and I don't know who provides that
service.
