how do you erase what you burned on a dvd?

i burned a movie to a dvd and i just want to know how to erase it
 
If the disk says "DVD-R" on it then you cannot delete/format files off of it.You can only Delete/format files off of a DVD that says "DVD-RW" on it. But if its useless then it'll make a good Frisbee :D
 
If the DVD says DVD-R, you erase it by breaking it into pieces. If it says DVD-RW, you stick it in a capable burner (not all DVD writers can handle DVD-RW) and erase it, then optionally rewrite new information.
